Another day, another step closer to that elusive Grapefruit League championship. The Grapefruit League championship so elusive that nobody has actually ever won it. But if anyone could win it, it would probably be the Nats.
Here's the scoop from Space Coast.
Nats waive Tyler Moore
Oh, Tyler. The 1B/OF never found his place on the roster, shifted between AAA and the Majors constantly, and struggled to produce consistently from a bench role. Even so, Moore did a lot for the Nationals, the highlight of his tenure being his go-ahead single in Game 1 of the 2012 NLDS. I'll be in the corner, crying, watching that highlight on loop, listening to "I Will Remember You". Don't mind me.
The Nats won big again
Max Scherzer struck out nine, Michael A. Taylor drove in four, and most importantly, the Nationals absolutely demolished the Cardinals, 8-2.
One bench spot remains. Who will take it?
Stephen Drew, Jose Lobaton, Michael A. Taylor, Clint Robinson and... who? Dusty Baker needs one more bench player, and there are a lot of possibilities. With such a lefty stacked bench, it's likely it'll be a righty. But what righty?
Bullpen roles still yet to be decided
Excepting Jonathan Papelbon, the Nats' bullpen is pretty much an open book. Baker in all likelihood will experiment for the first few weeks of the season, but before he does that, there are also two slots to fill in the pen.
Oliver Perez returns from WBC qualifiers
Importantly for the Nats, he's healthy and looked good. Importantly for him, Mexico won all three games and secured its spot in the World Baseball Classic.
