Game 16 WPA: LOBATRON ACTIVATE. Nats win 8-4

New, comments

Gio had a solid outing, although he stayed in maybe a few batters too long. The bullpen wasn't quite lights out in relief, but the offense provided sufficient margin of error. Yeah, and Loby hit a triple.

(What do these graphs mean?)

  • The wall came quick: Gio Gonzalez (+9.8%) throws six innings of one-unearned-run ball with 8 Ks and a walk before leaving with the bases loaded and no outs in the 7th (two of his runners would score).
  • Big inning: Daniel Murphy (+13.4%) gets the Nats on the board with a two-out RBI single in the first (+11.7%). Danny Espinosa (+10.5%) follows up with an RBI HBP (+8.6%), while Jose Lobaton (+14.5%) adds a two-RBI single to put the Nats up 4-0 (+11.4%).
  • WPA may be ageist: Jayson Werth (+1.8%) gets no credit for robbing a home run in the third, and barely any for a solo blast of his own in the 5th (+1.0%).
