Game 19 WPA: Maxed out? Nats lose 3-4

New, comments

Scherzer was not sharp--again. He labored through an acceptable outing, but the bullpen couldn't quite hold on and the bats couldn't quite come through. Good team loss.

Didn't catch it. Welp.

(What do these graphs mean?)

  • Back of the rotation stuff: Max Scherzer (-3.9%) puts together a quality start, giving up 3 runs in 6 IP with 7 Ks and 4 walks. Everyone else on the rotation does better, Max.
  • Leadoff hitterish? Michael Taylor (+11.1%) is 2-4 with a walk, making him tonight's WPA leader.
  • Rally time: Bryce Harper (+8.8%) drives in a two-out RBI in the 5th to get the Nats within one (+13.8%). Ryan Zimmerman (-0.8%) follows up with one of his own in the next AB to tie the game (+16.0%).
  • [Sad Trombone]: Oliver Perez (-22.4%) only gets one out in the 7th before giving up the go-behind run and tally a meltdown.
  • Not Clutch (if that existed): Jayson Werth (-19.4%) is 0-4 with 2 LOB and 2 Ks. Anthony Rendon (-14.8%) is 1-5 with 3 LOB. Jose Lobaton (-12.6%) is 0-4 with 2 Ks.
  • Fine relief work: Shawn Kelley (+7.5%) comes on to finish the 7th, while Felipe Rivero (+6.2%) finishes the aeyth and throws a scoreless 9th. Both earn shutdowns.
