Game 33 WPA: FAIL Umping is FAIL. Nats lose 4-5.

Not to say Ross didn't make mistakes or the Nats didn't miss some opportunities, but if you're not going to enforce a clear violation of the Utley Rule, why have it at all?

(What do these graphs mean?)

  • Robbed: Joe Ross (-43.1%) doesn't have his best outing, giving up 5 runs in 6 IP with 4 Ks and 2 walks, although he's victimized by an apparent unannounced change to the Utley rule that cost the losing runs in the 6th.
  • What a pleasant change from MAT striking out at leadoff: Ben Revere (-23.7%) tries for the Espinosa ground-out cycle, going 0-5 with 4 LOB.
  • A human LASIK advertisement: Wilson Ramos (+22.2%) is 2-2 with a walk, although he gets thrown out at home in the ayeth trying to score from first on a double to tie the game (-6.7%).
  • He still isn't hitting with RISP: Ryan Zimmerman (+20.8%) is 2-5 with a two-out, two-run bomb to left to put the Nats ahead in the 5th and a two-out, line-drive solo shot to center to get the Nats within one in the seventh (+12.5%).
  • Merit/demerit: Anthony Rendon (+12.3%) is 2-5 with a one-out double in the 9th (+16.7%). Daniel Murphy (-18.2%) is 2-5 with a fly out to end the game with two on (-16.6%).
  • Innings eater: Sammy Solis (+8.5%) has a tough 7th but an easy ayeth, both scoreless, to earn a shutdown.
