Wire Taps: Nationals exercise Mike Rizzo's option; Daniel Murphy scratched; Shawn Kelley's great start

Catch up on the last 24 hours in Washington Nationals news... right now!

Dennis Wierzbicki-USA TODAY Sports

The Nationals looked absurdly hot coming out of their series against the Detroit Tigers; Max Scherzer tied a major league record, Clint Robinson hit a walk-off home run, and Anthony Rendon looked like he was ready to finally break out. Then came the Miami Marlins. Even during wins on Friday and Saturday, it seemed as if all the energy had been sucked out of the Nats by the Fish as Washington stumbled to a 2-2 record on the weekend. Then again, when was the last time the Nationals and Marlins played a high energy game?

Here's the news from New York.

Ben Revere is comparing his slow start to "Space Jam"
4 for 41 since returning from the DL, Revere noted that he felt like "Charles Barkley and all those guys from Space Jam with their power taken from them". Of course, who does this make the Monstars?

Now making their batting debut, Make Baseball Fun Again
Harper sported a "MBFA" sticker on his bat knob, once again proving his superiority in the land of bat knob decals after his "100" emoji decal.

Shawn Kelley is quietly off to a great start
The veteran has not allowed a run yet. Knock on wood.

Nats exercise option on Mike Rizzo
The Lerners picked up their option on Mike Rizzo's contract, meaning that the (mostly) beloved general manager and President of Baseball Operations will remain with the team at least through the 2018 season.

Murphy scratched from Sunday start
The official cause was illness, although some eagle-eyed fans noticed Murphy's hand taped up.

Nonetheless, Murphy pinch hit for Anthony Rendon in the ninth.

Tomorrow's Game: Nationals vs Mets - 7:10 PM (MASN, MLB Network, WJFK)
Probable Pitchers: Max Scherzer (4-2, 4.15 ERA) vs Noah Syndergaard (3-2, 2.53 ERA)
