Game 59 WPA: AL ball is weird. Nats win 11-4.

This game was a little over-determined, but Max was nails and the lineup just kept hitting.

(What do these graphs mean?)

  • He got to take a nap between every inning: Max "Superfluous (tonight)" Scherzer (+11.1%) throws 7 innings of unneeded (but welcome) shutout ball with 6 Ks and a walk.
  • Score early, often: Ryan "The Kids Call Him Zim" Zimmerman (+12.0%) cranks a two-run shot over the bullpen in LF to cap the Nats' four-run first inning (+13.7%).
  • Stat-pad early, often: Stephen "I exist, and I hit bombs" Drew (+5.6%) takes advantage of rare start to hit a junk-time solo bomb to lead off the 2nd (+4.9%), while Danny "Who's that behind me?" Espinosa (+3.2%) goes back-to-back with his own solo shot (+3.5%).
  • Now THIS is some junk-timing: Jayson "I am a DH-loving apostate" Werth (+8.1%) hits a three-run bomb in the aeyth to get the Nats into double digits (+0.2%).
