Game 105 WPA: Mistakes. Nats lose 1-3.

For a team with decent defense most of the season, it was rough to lose a game with only one run legit run against. On the other hand, when you score one run, yourself, what do you expect?

(What do these graphs mean?)

  • Unearned: Gio Gonzalez (-1.5%) gives up 2 runs in 6 IP despite 2 walks and only 1 K (one run earned because the scorer can't assume a double play, but should be none).
  • Otherwise sufficient: Anthony Rendon (+13.7%) doubles in a run to get the Nats on the board in the 6th, although it would have been the go-ahead run had the D been a bit tighter (+13.6%).
  • Like a volcano, there's a hole at the top: Trea Turner (-11.7%) and Ben Revere (-10.0%) got a combined 0-8 with 2 Ks and 2 LOB.
  • Papelbonesque: We've been comparing Paps to Matt Belisle (-8.0%) all season, and he surrenders a run in the 7th to earn a meltdown and put the game out of reach.
