Game 123 WPA: Messier. Nats lose 6-7

The Nats are plagued by shaky relief work, errors, and not quite enough enough runs (although it should have been plenty).

(What do these graphs mean?)

  • Give the bullpen a rest: Gio Gonzalez (-5.0%) only makes it through 5 2/3 IP, giving up 3 runs on 8 Ks and 3 walks.
  • Remember me? I was MVP: Bryce Harper (+24.7%) belts a three-run homer with one out in the 3rd to give the Nats was looked like a commanding lead (+17.8%).
  • It's like he's pinch-hitting every time: Chris Heisey (+9.8%) continues dingering, hitting a two-run shot in the 6th that surely would provide enough runs (+19.3%).
  • The real goat: Yusmeiro Petit (-45.0%) melts down big time in the ayeth after getting four outs following Gio's exit, letting in a run and loading the bases with no outs.
  • The real hero: Blake Treinen (+33.4%) has an incredible shutdown, only letting in one run before getting out of the ayeth and throwing a scoreless ninth.
  • Additional goat: Shawn Kelley (-37.2%) only gets two outs in the 10th before giving up the losing dinger to earn a meltdown.
