Game 9 WPA: Practice?! Washington Nationals lose 6-1 to St. Louis Cardinals in frustrating display of poor baseball-playing.

Scherzer was wobbly, the bats were quiet, and I think Eaton was the only one who showed up to play.

I can’t believe it, either, but you’re the lucky WPA g04+!

(What do these graphs mean?)

  • A little wild: Max Scherzer (-5.5%) strikes out 10 but walks 2, hits one, and throws 3 WPs while giving up 3 runs (1 earned) over 6 innings.
  • He comes to play every damned day: Adam Eaton (+14.7%) is 2-4 with a double and an aeyth-inning RBI single to get the Nationals on the board (+10.8%).
  • Here are two of those “potential five-win players” I keep prattling on about: Bryce Harper (-19.1%) and Anthony Rendon (-16.0%) combine to go 1-8 with 2 Ks and 5 LOB.
  • Sharing is caring: Joe Blanton (-7.0%) shows he is the master of the democratic meltdown, cashing in two inherited runners from two other Nats relievers, as well as one of his own, in a spectacularly unsuccessful 9th-inning relief appearance.
