Wire Taps: Tanner Roark was hidden gem; Aaron Barrett back with Nationals; Rabbit enjoys opening day

Catch up on the latest Nationals news before Game 2 of 162 tonight in the nation's capital. All the Nats links that were fit to link...

Brad Mills-USA TODAY Sports

Alright, baseball again today! And baseball every day, for more than a week!

Here's what's new at Nats Park.

To get to the Tanner Roark we know and love today, the Nats had to bet on a guy with a 21.41 ERA... in the Independent League
Roark struggled, big-time, in the independent leagues, and the Rangers chose him in the 25th round with the 744th pick -- but the Nats scouting team saw something, obviously.

Max Scherzer banner is a really cool, really creepy addition to the park
There's now a banner in right field, near the Shake Shack, with a closely-cropped photo of Scherzer, prominently featuring his brown eye and blue eye, with backward and forward Ks photoshopped into each pupil. (This graphic was used during Scherzer's game 5 start in the NLDS against the Dodgers, but on the scoreboard.)

Nats re-sign Aaron Barrett to minor league deal
Aaron Barrett underwent two elbow surgeries in the last two years, which led to the Nats cutting him loose. However, they're keeping him in the organization on a minor-league deal... just in case.

Are we expecting too much from Trea Turner?
Trea Turner dominated in his first half-season in the bigs, and has dominated at every level professionally and in amateur ball. But he may be due for some growing pains soon...

Nats' coach, former player Rick Ankiel releases biography
The Phenomenon: Pressure, the Yips, and the Pitch that Changed My Life is an autobiography from Ankiel talking about how the yips forced him off the mound and into the outfield, and it releases this month.

Understandably, good rabbit enjoys Opening Day too
An unsuspecting rabbit ran into the camera well next to Marlins Park, and if it isn't adopted as the team pet within the next minute, the Nats are gonna have a revolt on their hands.

Nats have to embrace the grind for 2017
To win, the Nats have to be in it for every pitch, and keep their offense going until the last inning. That showed on Monday, but it has to be prominent for the entire season.

Emmanuel Burris receives 50-game suspension for drug of abuse
The product of Wilson High will be out for around two months in the minors due to using a drug of abuse.
