Wire Taps: Blake Treinen thinks nice guys can finish games; Nationals New socks, 3-D logos for the Nats

Now that a 162-0 season is off the table the Nationals will settle for trying to win the division. A three-game set in Citizens Bank Park starts this afternoon...

Brad Mills-USA TODAY Sports

Well, last night was interesting. Shawn Kelley, Sammy Solis, Blake Treinen, and Joe Blanton, four guys that have been pretty consistent, all faltered. Maybe luck of the rain delay? Either way, there's another game today, and Jayson Werth gets to be introduced in Philly on their Opening Day, so that's fun.

Here's the beat from Citizens Bank Park.

Jeremy Guthrie could make spot start for Nats
As of now, the Nationals' starter on Saturday is TBD. Joe Ross has to remain in the minors for 10 days, and pitches today anyways. A.J. Cole is still under suspension technically, which leaves... Jeremy Guthrie?

Blake Treinen has to prove that nice guys can finish games
Treinen has given up a run in two of his first three appearances as closer (granted, he came on with runners in scoring position last night). Even so, one of the nicest guys in the clubhouse still has a good shot at proving that closers don't have to be, y'know, insane.

The Nats' sock game is strong, and they now have 3-D logos on their helmets
Stance, the new sock-supplier of MLB, has offered a few new cool sock selections for the Nats this season. Bryce Harper, unsurprisingly, is already rocking them. Also: new helmets! Kind of.

All of the Nats' minor league Opening Days were rained out
The Nats' minor league system will have to wait another day to get going, as torrential downpour delayed the season by a day.

Player Preview: Gio Gonzalez
Will Gio look like he did last year? Or can he adjust and get his ERA back under 4.00?

Today's Game: Nationals vs Phillies -- 3:05 PM (MASN, MLB Network, WJFK)
Probable Pitchers: Max Scherzer vs Vince Velasquez
