Watch Washington Nationals’ ace Max Scherzer in a new promo spot for a D.C. animal rescue

No matter if you’re right next to him, watching him at a game in person, or seeing him on TV, it’s easy to tell that Max Scherzer is a pretty great dude all around.

The only thing that could make him even better? Dogs, of course.

Luckily for the Washington Nationals’ right-hander, he and his wife, Erica, provide homes for a few lucky pooches. Scherzer got to hang out with his fuzzy friends on camera recently when he starred in a TV spot for D.C.’s Humane Rescue Alliance, a shelter for dogs, cats, and other animals.

Scherzer, posing with a dog that appears to have heterochromia (the same condition that Scherzer was born with, meaning that one has two different colored eyes), talks about the importance of rescuing dogs and cats, and about how every animal has its own story.

Now, this is more of a wild idea than anything, but perhaps it would be in order for the Nats to have honorary bat-dogs each night? They wouldn’t have to do much besides sit in the dugout and look adorable, a pretty easy task given just how adorable most all dogs are already.
