Toward the end of an interview with SiriusXM Fantasy hosts Craig Mish and Jim Bowden earlier this afternoon, Nationals’ General Manager Mike Rizzo was asked to expand his role with the team to include amateur meteorologist.
With rain expected in the forecast as the Nats and O’s wrap up their four-game, two-city Interleague series, Rizzo was asked if he thought they would play baseball tonight in the nation’s capital.
“We’re thinking that the weather is going to break,” Rizzo said confidently, hours before the scheduled start time.
“Right now it’s raining quite — steadily. But we’re thinking by game time we should be able to get this one in.”
Reports from Nationals Park in the last hour said the rain slowed some, but picked up again as the 7:05 start time approached:
Rain had eased up for awhile but has picked up again. Tarp covering the field. Just about point where they won't be able to start on time.

Rain slowed for a bit, but it's picked up now. Lights are on (which they weren't before), but right now, it's still pouring.

About a half an hour before the first pitch was set to be thrown, the Nationals made the official announcement that the start of tonight’s game would be delayed:
The start of tonight's game vs. BAL has been delayed due to current weather conditions. Additional info will be provided as it is available.
