Game 62 WPA HOT TAKE: Countdown to 100 losses at 76. Nats lose again 5-1.

Scherzer pitched a pretty good game, but hung-over Nats can’t hit that much, and a bleary-eyed bullpen is similarly unhelpful.

(What do these graphs and percentages mean?)

  • 2,000 Ks and counting: Max Scherzer (+26.4%) gives up 1 run in 7 13 IP with 10 Ks and a walk, leaving with 2 on.
  • New leadoff hitter? Brian Goodwin () bounces one off the back wall of the home bullpen in RF to put the Nats ahead in the first (+9.9%).
  • BOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Oliver Perez (-11.1) can’t defuse Max’s mess, allowing a double steal then walking his only batter faced anyway. Blake Treinen (-27.7%) lets in all 3 inherited runners and one more.
  • I wouldn’t have guessed these two were the last to leave the party: Daniel Murphy (-11.3%) and Matt Weiters (-11.0%) combine to go 0-7 with 2 Ks and 3 LOB.

This WPA brought to you by AL teams all look alike to me:
