Game 59 WPA HOT TAKE: Ross to bullpen—ARE YOU CRAZY?! Joe throws gem in Nats’ 6-1 win over Os.

Joe fights the hitters instead of himself, putting in his best start of the year in spite of the anemic (for him) run support.

(What do these graphs and percentages mean?)

  • Who IS this guy? Joe Ross (+18.0%) gives up one run (!) over seven 1/3 innings (!!) with no walks and 12 Ks (!!!).
  • Full-blown panic: Trea Turner (+12.3%) walks to lead off the game (+3.5%), then steals 2nd (+2.4%), then steals 3rd (+2.7%), then scores on a Bryce Harper (+8.3%) single (+5.5%) for the early lead. Trea leads a double steal in the 2nd (+1.9%), setting up a sac fly run.
  • Please continue to prove me wrong: Michael Taylor (+12.4%) doubles in a pair of runs later in the first to put the Nats up by 4 (+12.9%).
  • Back into the swing of junk time: Stephen Drew (+10.8%) is 2-2 with an RBI single in the first (+8.5%) and a rocket of a solo shot into the second deck above the home bullpen in RF in the 5th (+1.7%).
