OMG... Have they announced the postponement yet? They did. Good. OMG... will Bryce Harper and Hunter Strickland have more drama? Everything old is new again, and the Nationals can’t seem to catch a break when it comes to rainouts, even though MLB is responsible for the way last night went because it’s San Francisco’s only trip to D.C. in 2017. Anyway, you can read about all this fun stuff below while you wait until the first pitch of the series at 7:05 PM EDT tonight in Nationals Park...
Everyone’s happy about the postponement, as expected:
After three hours, Nationals finally admit that game with Giants is postponed
"When it actually rained Friday night at Nationals Park, they somehow screwed the process up again."
Opener postponed, split doubleheader Sunday
Because this is the Giants’ only trip to Washington this season, Major League Baseball had the final say on the delay and postponement.
Giants-Nationals postponed, reset as Sunday split doubleheader
"Denard Span walked out of Nationals Park, wearing his street clothes and a look of wonderment. 'They haven’t said anything to you guys yet?' he said to reporters."
Jackson set to start vs. Giants following rainout
"Quite often in recent years, the Giants have gone to Washington to celebrate. This time, they'll head for our nation's capital to reacclimate."
Strickland vs Harper 2.0 probably won’t happen:
Dusty Baker on Bryce Harper and Hunter Strickland: ‘You just play’
"The last time they met, on Memorial Day at AT&T Park, Strickland plunked Harper because he didn’t appreciate Harper’s long admiration of a home run in the 2014 NLDS."
Giants’ Strickland on possibly facing Harper again: ‘Both teams are here to play ball’
“'That’s a long time, but it was a long time between the (2014) playoffs and the last time (in May), so who knows?' Baker said. 'It’s kind of on (Strickland).'"
Baker doesn't expect fireworks this weekend (game postponed)
"If you’re expecting any fireworks this weekend between the Nationals and Giants, Dusty Baker is cautioning you not to get yourself worked up too much."
Worst part of the whole Nats/Giants brawl, people do get hurt:
Giants' Morse still paying the price for Strickland-Harper fight
"Morse was diagnosed with the concussion the day after the May 29 fight, and placed on the disabled list. That is where he remains..."
Three-headed bullpen monster stories:
Sean Doolittle is going to stick with the heater
"It was one at-bat in a game of little meaning. But, it provided a look at Doolittle’s decision making with a quality hitter at the plate and the game on the line."
So far, Nationals’ three newcomers have provided plenty of relief
"Baker has deployed the three pitchers in the same order when the Nationals have held a lead entering the seventh inning: Kintzler in the seventh, Madson in the eighth and Doolittle to finish it off."
