Stephen Strasburg made his 2018 Grapefruit League debut last Saturday afternoon, with a two-inning outing in which he gave up three hits and one earned run, striking out two batters in a matchup against the Houston Astros in West Palm Beach, Florida’s FITTEAM Ballpark of the Palm Beaches.
Strasburg takes the mound this afternoon in the Nationals’ Spring Training home when the Nats take on the New York Mets and Noah Syndergaard at 1:05 PM EST in a game we can’t follow since there is no radio or television coverage available (though we probably couldn’t listen or watch anyway with no power up in the Northeast this morning following yesterday’s storm).
Strasburg didn’t have much to say when he spoke to reporters after his first outing of the Spring last week, explaining that it was early and there’s not much to read into anything in the first few starts.
“I mean, I don’t know, it’s the first outing of spring training,” he said, as quoted by MASN’s Mark Zuckerman, after the 29-pitch effort against the ‘Stros. “I felt really strong. It’s a new season, so there’s going to be ups and downs, and you just got to keep plugging along.”
He’s back on the mound this afternoon at home in West Palm Beach.
