No baseball tonight in Washington, D.C. Sorry. The Nationals and New York Yankees announced that both the suspended game from last night and tonight’s scheduled matchup have been postponed until June 18th.
New York Yankees’ manager Aaron Boone didn’t sound like he was holding out much hope that the second game of his team’s two-game set with the Washington Nationals would be played when he spoke to reporters after the series opener was suspended in the middle of the sixth inning last night.
“The forecast we know doesn’t look great,” Boone said, as quote by the Associated Press.
“All we can do is hope that something breaks up for us and get prepared to hopefully start at 5 o’clock and hope we can get a couple games in. Obviously, that’s out of our hands.”
He also expressed skepticism about the possibility that the two teams might finish the first and play the second on Thursday if they couldn’t play today, in spite of the fact that it was a scheduled off day for both his Yankees and the Nationals.
“I think as of now, we’re getting on a plane and going to Kansas City,” Boone said.
“I think there’s hotel issues. I think there’s all kinds of issues going on. My understanding is that if we don’t get it in, we’re going. But I’m sure those will be things they have to work through over the next 24 hours if the weather doesn’t cooperate.”
An hour before the Nats and Yankees were supposed to finish the first of two games today, the Nationals officially announced that both were being postponed until June 18th at 5:05 PM EDT.
There will be no baseball in Nationals Park tonight, and they won’t play tomorrow. Next up for the Nationals will be the three-game set with the Los Angeles Dodgers which starts this Friday at 7:05 PM EDT.
No word yet on whether the Nationals stick with the rotation as it is set up now, with Max Scherzer starting the opener with the Dodgers instead of his planned outing against the Bronx Bombers.

More information when it’s available, and a note to those with tickets for tonight’s game, the Nationals said to hold on to your tickets, so presumably you’ll need them to get in on 6/18.
