Washington Nationals’ set-up man Ryan Madson was reinstated from the Disabled List today, with right-hander Trevor Gott optioned to Triple-A Syracuse to make room on the roster.
Madson, 37, was placed on the 10-Day Disabled on May 20th (retroactive to the 17th) with a chest strain, or as the veteran reliever described it at the time, a strain in his pec after making three appearances in four games on the road in Arizona.
“I threw a lot that week, and also I was throwing harder than usual, with more extension and everything, so it might have been too much,“ Madson explained.
In 21 games and 19 1⁄3 innings on the mouns this season, the veteran has put up a 4.19 ERA, a 2.13 FIP, six walks, 20 Ks, and a .269/.333/.312 line against.
Gott, 25, has a 5.28 ERA, a 5.01 FIP, seven walks, 12 Ks, and a .250/.354/.444 line against in 17 games and 15 1⁄3 IP.
