Sean Doolittle, self-described “extremely online” person, has a long-standing relationship with Bay Area band Smash Mouth known for their eternal, generational, greatest-of-all-time hit “All Star.”
In fact, when he proposed to Eireann Dolan, Smash Mouth had already encouraged them to do so:
Wow! Sorry Sean but kinda digging that eye-black look! You buy a ring yet?
— Smash Mouth (@smashmouth) February 9, 2017
So, it came as no surprise that when Doolittle got his second All-Star nod, he immediately sent word to the band also famous for the eternal “Shrek” hit song “I’m a Believer.”
hey @smashmouth guess what

What's up sir?

Smash Mouth was excited, but not excited enough for Dolan’s standards:
Congrats to @whatwouldDOOdo for earning a spot on the NL All Star Team! @MLB Awesome support from @EireannDolan !!!! #AllStar #AllSean #DooAlot pic.twitter.com/aDVtKFM2M9

SAY THE THINGGGGGGGG https://t.co/2BpSdiSo7q
— Eireann #VoteTrea Dolan (@EireannDolan) July 9, 2018
The greatest band of our lifetimes luckily obliged:
Hey Now You're An All Star! https://t.co/hnUUWTKaXi
— Smash Mouth (@smashmouth) July 9, 2018
Afterwards, Doolittle quickly shifted focus from himself to his teammate, Trea Turner, for whom he immediately began campaigning in a classic Doolittle way: using memes and tweets.
tfw you can’t stop thinking about how Trea ranks in the top 10 in WAR in the entire NL and somehow didn’t get selected to the All Star Game. #voteTrea pic.twitter.com/SbxEfs52XN
