With rain falling in the nation’s capital and projected to continue all night, the Washington Nationals postponed tonight’s game against the Cincinnati Reds and announced that they would instead play a split doubleheader tomorrow afternoon at 1:05 and 7:05 PM EDT.
The announcement came about twenty minutes before first pitch was scheduled to take place, but it was clear that the game might not happen when the tarp was rolled out and neither of the starters had warmed up as the scheduled start time approached.
Gio Gonzalez was set to make the start tonight as the Nationals tried for their fourth straight win, and their seventh win the last nine games.
Gonzalez and Reds’ righty Anthony DeSclafani were set to start tonight with right-handers Jeremy Hellickson and Matt Harvey going on Saturday. Gonzalez and DeSclafani will start today’s game, with Hellickson and Harvey starting at 7:05.
The Nationals announced that they would stay in that order in tomorrow’s games with Tanner Roark and Luis Castillo expected to start the series finale on Sunday.
The Reds will reportedly stick with the same order as well. Enjoy your rainy night off...
Tonight’s game vs. the Reds has been postponed due to inclement weather. It has been rescheduled for tomorrow, August 4 at 1:05pm.
