Wire Taps: Juan Soto ejected; Koda Glover returns; Why did the Nationals get Greg Holland?

Catch up on the last 24 hours in Nationals news before the start of the series finale with the Braves (at 1:05 PM EDT only on The Facebook).

MLB: Atlanta Braves at Washington Nationals Tommy Gilligan-USA TODAY Sports

The Nationals enter today’s game 6.0 back of the Phillies. To maintain some hope to make the playoffs—though, based on yesterday’s game, they really shouldn’t have much—they need to win today and keep winning.

In other news, the Nationals have Gio Gonzalez, who has been involved in one win since June 15th, on the hill today.

Here’s the scoop from South Capitol!

Nationals rookie Juan Soto ejected for first time in his career (WaPo)
Soto quietly and respectfully gave Greg Gibson a piece of his mind the at-bat after Gibson called a strike he believed was inside. Gibson promptly ejected Soto, who continued to offer his opinion afterwards. Kevin Long got ejected in the ensuing argument.

Koda Glover ‘excited’ to be back in the Nationals clubhouse; Kelvin Herrera heads to DL (WaPo)
Glover was the closer of the future for a few weeks in Washington. Then a series of mysterious shoulder injuries slowed down his timeline -- but he's finally back, and not a moment too soon with Kelvin Herrera on the DL. Now, the question: how long can he stay healthy?

Scott Boras contradicts Jayson Werth: ‘We contacted all 30 teams’ but didn’t receive any offers (WaPo)
Werth blamed Scott Boras for telling him to wait it out despite having deals on the table and not reaching out to teams (Boras denied such accusations and backed it up with the paperwork). Afterwards, Werth called every team himself -- except the Mets. Werth also called out analytics-based front offices in a wild interview on Philly sports radio.

Koda Glover beyond relieved to be back in majors
Glover has a new training program from a sports performance program in Florida. “I’m telling you right now, being stuck in Florida, I have never experienced something like that,” he said. “It’s bad. So there’s a lot of prayer, a lot of meditation, a lot of trying to keep me sane.”

Koda Glover called up for revamped bullpen (MLB)
Glover described Florida as the twilight zone, and can make an immediate impact on the bullpen. Also, Erick Fedde and Stephen Strasburg both threw bullpen sessions on Wednesday.

Nationals acquire Greg Holland in baffling move (BtBS)
Holland has given up 13 runs in 12.2 innings since June 19. Some of it was unearned, but the Nationals would be making a pretty big leap of faith to assume he'll suddenly find whatever it is he had in 2017, given that his velocity and strikeouts are down. Bearing the question: just how bad were Brandon Kintzler and Shawn Kelley for the clubhouse that they have to replace them with Holland?

As Kelvin Herrera lands on DL, Sean Doolittle fights urge not to rush back (MASN)
Ryan Madson will close, and Greg Holland, Justin Miller, and Koda Glover will slot in before him. Sean Doolittle, in the meantime, will have to work not to go too quickly despite his recovery ramping up.

Mike Rizzo confronted Braves announcer for implying Juan Soto isn’t really 19 (WaPo)
Rizzo apparently approached Braves announcer Joe Simpson face-to-face about his comments, which Jeff Passan called outdated. It's not the first time Simpson has expressed some thoughts past their sell-by date this season.
