Washington Nationals’ skipper Davey Martinez did everything he could to keep the team on the right track when they got off to a 19-31 start in the first 50 games, and, as you know, the 74-38 finish to the season earned them a spot in the Wild Card Game, then they came back to win that game, and beat the LA Dodgers in the NLDS, before sweeping St. Louis to earn a spot in the World Series.

Along the way, the nation’s capital has gotten swept up in Nationals fever, and they’ve let the Nats’ manager know how much they appreciate what he and the club have done, so, Martinez said on Thursday, he has some sense of what it means to fans in D.C.

“Yeah, it’s been unbelievable, it really has,” Martinez told reporters. “As you know, I travel by scooter everywhere around. And now -- before I used to wear my hat and nobody really -- and now wherever I stop -- as a matter of fact, sometimes people just come up and smack me on the back, ‘Nice going, nice going, Davey.’ I’m like, ‘Hey.’ So it’s always, ‘Hello, great job.’

“But it’s been overwhelming,” Martinez added. “The fans have bought in and it’s been great. And I know apparently yesterday almost 15,000 people here watching us play. I can’t wait until tomorrow. This place -- I said it before, this place gets really loud and it’s electric. So I know the boys are excited to play.”

Martinez was taking about Game 3, of course, but if you weren’t able to get to tonight’s game, you still have at least one more shot to watch the World Series in person...
