Welcome to SB Nation FanPulse, a survey of fans across MLB. Each week, we send 30 polls to plugged in fans from each team. Nationals fans, sign up HERE to join FanPulse.
When you hear the word “bean” or “beanball” in baseball what does it mean to you? A pitch with a purpose, generally, or one that’s particularly aimed at the head?
There was a bit of good old controversy this week because of the wording of the “national” question in this week’s SB Nation FanPulse voting, which asked people if it was ever okay for pitchers to “bean” a batter? It’s never okay to intentionally aim at the head, right? But to hit a batter on purpose anywhere but the head? That’s like totally okay right? At least 40% of those who voted on that this week are okay with “bean”-ing, however they interpreted the term, which leaves 60% of people who were right on that question.

As for the local ?s in this week’s FanPulse voting? Davey Martinez’s manager approval #s are actually up a bit this week, from 38% to 41% in Week 5 of the voting, down from 73% before the season opener.
And the confidence in the overall direction of the team? That’s down yet again from 95% on Opening Day, 60% in Week 2, 46% in Week 3, and 47% in Week 4 to 45% in Week 5 of voting from FBB’s FanPulse voters.
