Things are getting interesting in Baltimore.

Before the start of tonight’s three-game series with the Baltimore Orioles in Camden Yards, the Washington Nationals announced a number of roster moves:

-Placed INF Starlin Castro on the 10-day IL (broken right wrist)

-Selected the contract of INF Luis Garcia and added him to the 28-man roster

-Transferred LHP Sam Freeman to the 60-day IL

-Added RHP Ryne Harper as the 29th man

Starting at the bottom of that list, Harper was sent to the club’s Alternate Training site earlier today with Dakota Bacus (who made his MLB debut this afternoon) coming up to help the bullpen. Harper has now, subsequently, been added back to the roster as the 29th man for the second game of the night which follows the completion of this past Sunday’s postponed affair from D.C.

Sam Freeman was placed on the 10-day Injured List with a left flexor mass strain on Thursday, and now is being transferred to the 60-Day IL.

Luis Garcia, who just turned 20 in May, started the season ranked No. 2 on the MLB Pipeline list of the top prospects in the Nationals’ system after a 2019 campaign which saw him put up a .241/.274/.277 line (61 for 253) with seven doubles and a triple in the first half of the season at Double-A Harrisburg, before he bounce back some in the second-half, with a .272/.286/.393 line (74 for 272), 15 doubles, three triples, and four home runs for the Senators.

Garcia signed out of the Dominican Republic for $1.3M in 2016. He’s on the roster now (and starting at second tonight) after Starlin Castro injured his right wrist in this afternoon’s game.

“He hurt his wrist. Pretty sore, so we went and got X-rays. Waiting to hear back,” Davey Martinez said in the immediate aftermath of the loss to the O’s in the resumption of the postponed game.

Apparently the X-rays revealed a broken right wrist.
