Of course Max Scherzer threw a complete game before showering up and running off to be with his wife for the birth of their third child. Max is Max as Davey Martinez is fond of saying, but you shouldn’t be surprised by anything he does at this point. Ryan Zimmerman isn’t. It’s no surprise that Scherzer did what he did on Sunday. He’s been doing it for most of his time in the nation’s capital his teammate said.

“I mean he’s been about as consistent as you can be since he’s come over here,” Zimmerman told reporters after the Nationals’ 3-1 win over the Miami Marlins.

“For all the talk about how free agent pitchers sign deals and teams lose money on deals, I think they should look at Max’s deal, and how much money they saved on Max’s deal. I mean, he’s been about the best possible outcome you could have from one of those contracts. And I think it goes back to just the way he works, the way he prepares. Obviously his talent is through the roof, but I’ve said this many times before, he’s one of the hardest workers and one of the most prepared pitchers I’ve ever seen.”
